Rob’s E30 318i
Some of you may remember in my first report I said I was hoping to enter my first sprints in May. Well, as I write this we are in the twilight of April; May is just around the corner and, as you can see, the old E30 is not quite there yet. Best laid plans and all that…
Not that I’ve been slacking off. No, I’ve been using what little time I’ve had to order parts such as the roll-cage which will hopefully be with me mid-May. I did grab some great original E30 cross-spokes in great nick from an ever-popular internet auction site for a very reasonable £200, which seemed like a bargain to me. Plus, the very nice chap that sold them to me showed me round his rather nice car collection which included two E30s, an immaculate 325i Sport and a truly awesome S38-powered track car. Safe to say I was rendered well and truly jealous!
I haven’t been completely avoiding the workshop, my DTM-style mirrors have been sanded back and repainted and have come up great. I finally got round to fitting my slider kit. It’s certainly not my neatest work and I feel I may have rushed it slightly but there’s no one to blame but myself. I spent time clearing up some of the now defunct wiring in the interior. That includes wiring from the electric windows, mirrors, interior lights and the heated rear window. Not much weight will be saved by removing the unnecessary wiring but every little helps and it does tidy the cabin up somewhat.
So, fingers crossed, I won’t fall too many months behind. Once the roll-cage has arrived and is bolted in the car will at least be ready to compete. It won’t be as finished as I would like but when is any project truly finished…?
